Alba Vinti is a freelance flautist based in Edinburgh. She enjoys a busy and varied career as an orchestral and chamber musician, as well as being an experienced teacher.
She has played as Principal Flute with the Scottish Ballet Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra and the European Union Youth Orchestra, of which she has been a member in 2022 and 2023. She also performs regularly with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Spira Mirabilis, amongst others. Her performance activity has given her the opportunity to play alongside excellent musicians and work with world-renowned conductors and leaders such as Gianandrea Noseda, Iván Fischer, Antonio Pappano, Manfred Honeck, Maxim Emelyanychev, Gustavo Gimeno, Andrew Manze, Dinis Sousa, Daniele Rustioni, Ryan Wigglesworth, Isabelle van Keulen or Lorenza Borrani. Through her orchestral work Alba has enjoyed playing in many of Europe’s best concert halls, including Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Konzerthaus Berlin, Auditorio de Zaragoza, Elbphilharmonie or Musiikkitalo (Helsinki).
Prior to moving to Edinburgh, Alba studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón (Zaragoza, Spain), with Antonio Nuez and Fernando Gómez, and later went on to study in Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Kersten McCall.
Alba believes that music is a universal form of communication and is dedicated to exploring its power and impact through various means. As an orchestral player she takes part in the collective experience of communicating, collaborating and working with other musicians to bring fascinating repertoire to life. With her chamber music work she uses the smaller ensemble size to connect more closely with audiences and present interesting repertoire and ensemble combinations, especially with her flute and guitar duo, Nus Duo. Their collaboration has lead to many performance opportunities, and they have won several national awards including 2nd Prize at Juventudes Musicales (Ávila 2021) and the Chamber Music Scolarship at Airas Nunes Aula de Cámara (Santiago de Compostela 2021).
A dedicated teacher, Alba is committed to passing on her passion for music making through flute playing. She teaches privately and is the flute teacher at St Mary’s Music School’s Saturday Music Classes in Edinburgh. She has also become involved with creative learning programs such as the SCO’s school workshops and Red Note Ensemble’s pedagogic iniciatives with young children or Vibe, a fusion orchestra for young musicians.
